The part printed well and works as intended. I printed the 5 bearing model and used a length of 5/16th aluminum rod for the axle. Unfortunately, the holder works too well, at least in my case. Without any friction at all, my top mounted spool would get to a certain point and just start unrolling itself. Maybe its better suited for a side feed application versus a top mount holder. Maybe my spools have gone feral and just want to run free. Either way, I appreciate the well designed model and the updates you added.

Hi, thanks for your feedback.
I use a ptfe tube from the spool to the extruder. It has dual functionality of stopping clogs before reaching the extruder and to add sloght pressure to avoid unspooling. You might want to try it.

I had a problem with the bearing rod sticking to the bed and brim not working. Found a little bug in the model.

Thingiverse didn't notify me about you answering me, sorry. I fixed the model myself back then and promptly forgot about it. I checked your model and it slices beautifully now.

Where do you get the NUT for your model?

The nuts from original are wider than my Ender 3 mount, so I cant install as your photos....

Just wondering what the diameter including the bearings is. Some of my spools have a hollow middle and I might need to make a adaptor like this one https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3094152.

Spool holder + bearing total diameter is ~33mm.

love the design. however I keep running into an issue. I use hatchbox and yoyi filament and as such - the spacing of the bearings on this model teeter right on the edge of the filament spool. so sometimes the spool will wobble right off the edge of 1 of the bearings and it causes the spool to "wobble".. do you know if its possible or more specifically the degree of difficulty - to use the spoolholderupdate stl.. and reduce the distance between each bearing so as to create enough room for a 5th bearing to be added to this? with the distance reduced and a 5th bearing added, that should eliminate the issue i'm having and I think provide overall more contact surface for spools ro ride on.

Pulled the file down and printed overnight. Swapped the hardware over to the new print and assembled, is working awesomely! Between the space reduction around the bearings and adding that 5 bearing - she’s smooth as butter w no wobble!! Thank you!!

Sure, it is a simple remodel to change the spacing of the bearings.
I will make the change and post the STL shortly.

I just wanted to say thanks for this :-D Here are the pictures of the final product. I used wooden dowels as the pins for now. As it happens nail cuticle wooden things are great and you can jam 3 in to fix the 608 bearings in place. I'm sure this in going to help me get consistent prints as I have previously had extruder issues which I'm sure were due to filament snagging from the spool.

I added pin locks today, so I hope you will try it out.

Here's an idea for an addition to this. The centre pin is missing and using metal is kind of defeating the whole "print it yourself" idea. So what I was thinking that would be a great addition is a pin that is hollow and has raised bumps to trap the 608 bearings. This way you could push the pin through and it would deform as it goes through the regular holes and then expand at the bearing points. The barbed end is to lock to pin from moving into the part (maybe an endstop instead ?). Anyway I thought I'd share the idea in case anyone would like to try to design this part.

Diameter of the spool holder

I added a longer version of the spool holder stl file.

The problems in this system are the diameter - sometimes it is much smaller.

do you mean length of the spool or diameter of the spool holder?
