Overview and Background
Optical Density meters are widely used in bacteria cultivation. When working with magneto-tactic bacteria, one can measure the alignment of the bacteria by application of a magnetic field. This system integrates the optical density component with a three dimensional electromagnet.
Lesson Plan and Activity
The 3D part presented here is just one part of the entire system. For a completely running instrument, you need to wind coils to generate a magnetic field, introduce a LED light source and multiple photodetectors, and build a PCD to transfer the data to an Arduino.
