I printed version A-S1 on my Ender 3 Pro (0.16mm, 30% infill, 200°C Nozzle, 50°C Bed, PLA).
I'm having a hard time getting any sounds out of it. Any idea what might be the issue?

Printing a bunch of these for a protest in Germany against article 13 TAKE THAT COPYRIGHT LAW couldn't be more ironic. If you set Cura to 0.4 layer height you can print them in about 10 minutes which is ideal if you want to give them away to some fellow protesters. Thanks for this super simple design.

Please be peaceful and stay safe!

I care about Net Neutrality and an Open Internet. Please be safe and peaceful, and I wish you good luck, friends across the pond.

For those who don't know what Article 13 is, you can read about it here.

Thank you! (◠‿◠)

I compared this with two others on Thingiverse. This one was second of the line-up. It's so loud and has a great pitch. I particularly love the warble effect from the double, it's very much a sports whistle tone. There's not a lot of resistance so it takes much less puff than say the V29 to get the same output. I love the design. It was pipped to the post by the compact emergency whistle, which is so loud and high pitched and needs less puff still to get going.

Tested:

  1. Extremely loud and compact emergency whistle: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2933021
  2. Emergency & Sports Whistle: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3130078
  3. V29: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1179160 (takes a lot of puff)

Woo! Second place, my second favorite number! (Favorite is 13.)

I'll have to give #1 a shot at some point. Their username checks out! This goes to show that there are lots of really good designs out there!

I did the same but never got to download the Emergency & Sports whistle. I fully agree with you and Love the Extremely Loud and Compact whistle and it is my go to due to it's ease of use and compactness combined with it's loudness. This was actually my Second loudest whistle though. that would be the STP_whistle but not the normal 3 chamber whistles as they aren't that loud. His Apito version which is included is the loudest whistle on thingiverse. It is however a little bigger and takes more air to get louder than the Extreme (my fav). Give it a try. The easiest way to get it to print properly is to let your slicer ignore the built in supports and add your own. I actually put it F360 and cut it out. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2225386/files

STP_Whistle

I needed a whistle for lunch duty/ recess. This is phenomenal! Thanks!!

You're welcome! (◠‿◠)

Thanks! Really loud! Requires some pressure to get going. Played around with the size. If anyone want to print one octave, I think this should work:
C 150,8%
C♯ 125,3%
D 118,2%
D♯ 111,6%
E 105,3%
F 99,4%
F♯ 93,8%
G 88,6%
G♯ 83,6% Choking hazard?
A 78,9% Choking hazard?
A♯ 74,5% Choking hazard!
B 70,3% Choking hazard!!
C 66,4% Choking hazard!!!

Note that the smallest ones constitute a choking hazard. I don't think kids should have any of these but be aware of the smallest ones! For your own safety put a cord through all of them.

This is amazing! I'll might try some of these later!

This is super creative and your humor is after my own heart!

♪♫ ~(˘▾˘~)

LOL I like how the choking hazard warnings go from a waybe to DEFINITELY!!

Thanks, the best I found so far. Easy print and works very good.

You're welcome! Happy to hear it!

Far and away the best whistle I've found after four different designs. It's very loud with an interesting sound and you don't have to blow really hard to make it operate. Thank you!

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1179160 <-- compared to this is this design louder?

I have been using the linked design scaled down to 60% and it has been working really well plus has compact size.

V29
by jzisa

The main complaints with the V29 is how hard you have to blow to make it loud. You don't need to blow the D2 nearly has hard to get a comparable volume (about 120-130 db on how you measure it). Of course the sound profile and pitch are very different between the whistles and everyone has their own personal preferences and needs, so there is no better whistle. Except for the Better Whistle. (-‿-)

Better Whistle

Great Design. These will be perfect for my young daughters. Thank you very much for your work.

You're welcome!

Hey, I have tried many whistles on Thingiverse, but yours is the easiest and loudest! I was wondering if I have your permission to sell these at an upcoming high school basketball game. I see you have the Non-commercial licence, which is why I am asking for your permission. Thanks

First of all, thank you for asking!

It looks like I'm a little late getting back to you! I'm sorry about that! (╥﹏╥)

So I guess I will have to answer for similar, future requests. I don't know if it's for yourself or a fundraiser for something, so I will have to decline your request for the time being. It's non-commercial by the general public, so please reframe from selling them at this time. Essentially, I would have to judge on a case-by-case basis, so it's a universal "no" at the time being. Unless, of course, all proceeds go to a local/independent Animal Homeless Shelter. Then by all means go right ahead!

I hope this helps! (◠‿◠)

Hello, I like your designs, but I would like to have a single tone emergency whistle that is flatter so I can have more room to print a name and/or some additional info on the side. Similar to the Kid's safety whistle on thingiverse. Want it to print fast, be loud and usable as a safety whistle. Can I just "squish" it? Of course I would need to figure out how to do that too.

Thanks!

You're welcome!

I thought about doing something like that, but I didn't want to have to do a bunch of experimentation for my first whistle design (single tone, as you mentioned).

But I have had issues like that while testing for a more recent design. If you squish it, you're gonna want to keep it printing on it's side (so it prints tall). You may need to experiment with also lengthening (or shortening) the body of the whistle depending on how much you squish and stretch to limit issues with changing the frequency shelves.

You can make simple stretches right within Cura! It's the second option on the left (Hotkey: S). Be sure to uncheck the "Uniform Scaling" box! Good luck! Let me know how it turns out!

It's works! Thank you for sharing. Like!

You're welcome! (˵◠‿◠˵)

Hi, maybe it would be louder , if you put a single one in the middle of the pair version. I mean 1 left looking+1 looking upwards+1 right looking.
Nice job

Thanks!

I thought about doing something like that, but had two issues with the concept.

  1. In testing I didn't have satisfactory results unless the edge was printed vertically (sideways). Edges printed horizontally (upright?) had some drooping and sound issues. Of course that could be just my printer or how I sliced it.
  2. I thought the sound would become "muddy" with 3 different tones (or unbalanced if 2:1).

I do have an alternative design you might like, though. Maybe. (¬‿¬)

These are really cool! I just followed you! Keep it up!

Thank you! (˵◠‿◠˵)

Amazing - for a trip to the highest Mountain in germany „Zugspitze“ with my Company.

Sweet! It warms my heart that you're putting these whistles to good use!

Thank you for sharing! (˵◠‿◠˵)

pls make the ref whistle. it would be perfect to get the attention of the parents at the youth tournaments i work

I am a wrestling ref. i need a ref whistle that gets the attention of all the parents lol. pls make that ref whistle

I briefly tackled this in the past, and if there is more interest by others I will give it another go.

Honestly, you should check out the Better Whistle. I recommend the one with a pea. My initial attempt couldn't come close, and their design is VERY good. There are a couple a derivatives which fix the mesh issue. One is called Survival Whistle which you should also check out!

Didn't work; printed standing up and no supports... Is there a post process?

It doesn't sound like you printed the whistle in the correct orientation. The column edge should be perpendicular to the printing bed. I'm sorry for the confusion! (╥﹏╥)

I've updated the models so now they're in the correct printing orientation by default! I hope this helps! (◠‿◠)

Excellent little whistle! Nice job. I've added a few of these to my camping gear.

Thanks! (˵◠‿◠˵)

how should he be printed ??
Lying or standing upright ??

They should be laying flat, with the single column positioned on its side. There seems to be a bit of confusion on this, so I've updated the models so now they're in the correct printing orientation by default!

I hope this helps! (◠‿◠)

fai il fischietto sportivo mi potrebbe essere di grande aiuto lo fai???

Mi dispiace, non parlo italiano. Non capisco il contesto della domanda.

Made both of these, they printed perfectly and work VERY well. Thanks!

You're most welcome! It makes me happy you like them! :D

Made one for the kids and it works great, V29 was good but very hard to use.

Yeah, I really like the V29's shape, but like you, I found it too hard to blow (to be used easily).

I may or may not be working on additional whistle designs. So you may or may not want to keep an eye out in the future. (◠‿◠)

I'll be following :)

Hey! This is a great whistle, and i was wondering if you were open to another maker (myself) taking your model and incorporating it into a project. Would that be okay? I know technically this is public domain, but I don't want to offend. I was planning on putting a working whistle model into a thumbs-up model, so that one would blow into the thumb and it would make a whistle sound. Can I have your permission to use your model?

I appreciate you sharing you like it so much! It makes me happy! (˘⌣˘)

Thank you for asking permission. I've also been privately messaged about derivative works. I can't judge case-by-case (don't have the time, and I don't want to risk being unfair), so I've added a section in the thing description to standardize and address my current policy on derivative works for these two whistles. I'm not going to go into it at length here, so if I update the policy at a later date I don't risk having outdated information out and about.

I hope this helps! (^‿^)

Which one is the sports whistle?

Either really, they're multi-purpose. However, the D2 (two-tone) oscillates, so that is more suited for sports.

Very nice. The dual tube looks a LOT like my my design. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1564108

Thank you! I'm glad you like them! It's an honor to be recognized by another whistle maker on Thingiverse!

Yeah, there are only a handful of dual side edge-tone whistle designers! We've got you, wbohelps, zachary91, mistertech, and myself (if we exclude the beat and all the train whistles). Please rest assured I didn't copy yours or anyone's design (I assume you're insinuating by making the comparison); I designed these from scratch. Please print a D2, compare with your whistle, and I'm sure you'll agree they're very different!

Thank you again for taking the time to let me know you think they're nice! It means a lot! :D
