A free standing spool holder that was designed for the 3DFilaPrint 1KG spools of 1.75mm PLA.(These spools are about 68mm wide and have a centre hole of 52mm)
It allows you to adjust the tension by tightening the screw/bolt.
Print the following parts...
2 x 'foot'
2 x 'a-frame'
2 x 'bearing'
1 x 'spindle nut'
Next you need to find a suitable screw/bolt. about 75-80mm long. The spindle is designed for M6 but you can edit the files if you like. (I have included the sketchup file)
If you are using a hex bolt then print the 'spindle hex' part or if you are using a round screw/cap head print the 'spindle round bolt'
The 'hex filler' is optional.
Drop an M6 nut down the 'spindle nut' part and wedge in the optional 'hex filler' if you printed it.
Push your bolt through the 'spindle hex' or 'spindle round bolt' part, depending on which one you printed. This should be a tight fit so that it doesn't spin, glue if necessary.
Push a bearing on each of the spindle parts, leave a 5mm gap between the outer ring of the spindle part and the bearing so that it sits on the top of the a-frame.
Push the a-frame parts into the feet.
Push the bearings into the spool and tighten to suit. Drop onto the a-frame.
Note. Parts are designed to be a tight fit so you will probably need to do some fettling. There is also a small amount of bridging in the spindle parts. I printed then without issue on my RepRap Ormerod.
