Working off my previous experience with others Particle Thrower models (CountDeM0net, DancinFool82), I decided to model up a brand new wand in Solidworks, as many of the models out there, I had pretty serious issues with, be it small details or otherwise.
So here's the fruit of my last week of labor - my take on the business end of our favorite Ghostbusting gear.
Parts are mass-exported from Solidworks, and may require rotation/etc to print. Most parts shouldn't require supports. Lenses/Hat-Lights need to be printed solid with transparent filaments.
As a specific note, the Gunbody will print just fine sitting flat with supports.
Right now, the model is designed to fit a GBFans Light Kit. If you have a different light kit, or a custom one, please shoot me a PM or a message here. I will happily customize the model to fit your particular electronics setup.
For those curious, the parts that differ from electronics kit to kit are: Gunbody, Barrel LED Adapter, and the Vent Lens.
The Bill of Materials Excel sheet contains not only how many of each part you need, but all the screws & nuts required to finish the wand, as well as how long to cut the PVC handles and barrel options.
You have three options for a barrel - A cut test tube (140 x 25mm Plastic, cut to 75mm) with a Mattel-Style barrel tip, 3/4" Acrylic Rod (cut to 120mm), or the screen-accurate 7/8" Acrylic Barrel.
I've also included a Back Handle Cutting Jig, which you slip over a piece of Schedule 40 3/4" ID PVC Pipe, and is used to mark & cut the pipe for the exact correct mating angle with the gun body. The same is provided for the 1.25" Aluminum tubing (Screen accurate) version.
Banjos mount with 1/8 dowel rods. Most hobby shops sell dowel by the foot, use wood or plastic.
I have also included drawings of some of the more confusing sub-assemblies. The bubble numbers correspond to the Item # in the Bill of Materials.
The model does not include a Clippard Valve, as I just released my own R-331/R-701/R-501 model, based on Clippard's own CAD data and my measurements from a live 80's Vintage R-331. You can find that model here.
Update 10/20/2018 - Fixed Heatsink orientation & a minor size issue with the external Hat Light. Updated models are: Wand Body, Heatsink, External Printable Hat Light.
Update 11/14/2018 - Added new barrel option - proper acrylic rod. Using 3/4" OD acrylic rod, you can use the 0.75 Acrylic versions of the GBFans Barrel LED Adapter, Barrel Tip, and Barrel Tip Adapter to build up your wand. Just cut the Acrylic Tube to the length you want. My measurements show 120mm to be about right, with the front face of the tip collar about 1" (25.4mm) from the rod tip. Check the pictures, as I've included a see-through image that should make the mounting very clear.
Update 02/28/2019 - Finally added all the parts required to use the screen-accurate 1-1/4" OD 1" ID aluminum tubes for handles. The front is cut to 6.5", the back to 8.5". This includes a cutting jig as well for perfectly matching handle angles. This also requires the proper 7/8" OD acrylic barrel tube.
Update 04/16/2019 - Updated Wand Body (for 1.25" Handles) to fix rear handle mount, as I accidentally sized the mount to the tube OD instead of the ID. Sorry!
Update 08/15/2019 - Added "Wand Body 1.25in OD Handles TEST REV LARGE HANDLE HOLE.stl" which has a massive 20mm hole in the back handle stub (vs. stock 15mm), at the request of a Thingiverse user.
