Summary

New version available here

Since most of our 3D printers have their built-in spool holders on the back, where it's least convenient, we designed this to gain 30cm of desk space and to facilitate material change (not mentioning avoiding mucking up the wall behind the printer).

We designed this self centring spool holder, simple to print and holds the spindle firmly in place by the weight of the filament.

We added a clip to hold the spindle in place when the filament is almost all consumed and the motor pull becomes stronger than the weight of the spindle (causing it to be removed it from its axis).

Spindle size 28mm (25mm center)
Max spool radius 12 cm
Max spool width 11.5 cm

HI
I print the base with support of without
AND IAM USING PLA

Prints fine without support.

I've got some pretty serious warping on the base (in PLA). Did you guys use some adhesion tricks to print it?

I can't really advise, I didn't print it in PLA, i printed it in ABS and I use ABS Juice to get the parts to stick. I think if you set your heatbed at 60C and put some PVA glue or some ABS Juice you should be ok.

I didn't try ABS because I thought the warping (even with juice) would be worse but maybe I'll give it a try.

Any chance you could make one with 4 screw holes and a complete circle for the spine? I absolutely love the look of this but I am in need of a wall mounted spool holder to sit above my printer. I've found some decent ones but would love to use this if possible!

Why not just use a curtain rod ?

Excellent job, I printed two.

Thanks !

I'm working on a new version, will be releasing it shortly (printing the first prototype now), so stay tuned.

Another Filament Spool Holder - Version 2

Thank you. Made one for my new Flash Forge Dreamer. Works very well and looks very smart. I too was a bit worried about the height but I thought I could just stick come 20mm legs under it but it was just tall enough.

I build one without reading the max radius. I'm about a half inch too short! Any chance you could make this customizable to make it a bit taller?

I'm sorry to hear. Give me till the 2nd week of October 2013, I'll post the PTC Creo part file, you could them modify it to your liking (I'm travelling until then).
