Hi. Great idea! Is the fan blowing up or down? Also, I'm going to try to smooth a coffee cup. What would be the best way to smooth the inside of the cup? Thanks.

Can you please post any URLs, wiring diagrams and instructions that would help someone like me build on of these?

Does this container http://a.co/d/dQnZQ5T on amazon look like the container you used? The dimensions are 6.3 x 9.4 x 6.3 inches.

it looks similar, especially the round corners and the volume (both 4 litres) but it's not exactly the same. Here the link to the one I used: https://www.kmart.com.au/product/4-litre-push-close-container---large/1931305

The width is slightly different. Mine is 15.3cm, yours from amazon is 16cm, but I am not sure if they refer to the container or the box they use to ship. Anyway if you decide to buy this one from amazon you can just scale up the base to make the container fit. Then use the same scale for the bottom box. Everything else is exactly the same.

It would probably take a few extra minutes to adjust the sizes but a bigger container would give you more room for the polyshing, which is not a bad thing... good luck and if you have any question let me know!!

What type of material did you do the printed parts in that doesn't react with the alcohol? A link to the removable top would be great. Nice work.

Almost all filament material will not react to alcohol, e.g., PLA, ABS, PETG, etc. Polymaker especially designed the Polysmooth as the only filament at the moment that reacts to alcohol. So for this project, you can print the 3d-printed parts with the material of your choice and use Polysmooth for part that you want polished.

Dude, great design! Looks more polished and even has small no. of printed parts! I dig the polished part! I assume you're also using Polysmooth filament (?)

Do you have the fan running throughout the polishing session or turns on and off?

I also plan to put a fan to even out the mist flow but I was still contemplating on where to put the fan. I thought of putting on top so that it will not get exposed too much from the alcohol. You put the fan in the bottom. Wondering if alcohol will not accumulate on it cause it to not last for long or worst cause a spark. Hopefully not but will still warn you to keep an eye on it.

Also, I plan to paint the interior of the bottom of the polishing station. I just didn't have the time (and suitable location) to paint. Plus being transparent, it's easy to show to everyone the connections inside.

Yes I only use the Polysmooth.

The fan is controlled by a switch, but I keep it always ON, it really improves the end result! I think you should try it as well! It makes the air/alcohol mixture more uniform inside the box and it reduces condensation on the other surfaces. Actually I added a button to turn off the humidifier, cause sometimes I think it get's too much alcohol inside.

Probably I will automate the program in the arduino (like 5 min with humidifier on and 2-3 minutes off).

In regards to the fan positioning consider that when it is on, there is not much difference on alcohol quantity on bottom/top. One of my photos was taken before adding the fan, that's why you see the alcohol more dense at the bottom. Now it is a different story.

I did not put it on top because I didn't like having long wires hanging around, that would also be a problem when I open the transparent top, if the fan is attached to it. This way the wires go through the base plate and I can open/close the transparent top more freely.

Consider also that the part I printed keeps the fan 1cm above the bottom. Tonight I will upload the design so you can have a look, and maybe use it. In regards to the risk of sparks I thought about it, so I bought a brushless fan, that is also insulated quite well, so I would not expect to have any sparks (hopefully). Plus (I haven't tried it and not going to :D) but considering that the transparent top keeps the area inside insulated, any fire should not last for more than a few seconds cause there is no air to support the fire. Anyway I only keep it on when I'm there to check it :)

Yea I think that painting the bottom of your station would be a good improvement! Share some photos after.. I will post some photo of my next prints as well..

Hey man! How's it going? Finally decided I should give the fan a try. Before I do that, wondering hows the fan on your unit so far. Have you been using the polisher? Did the fan degrade after several use? If not, I'm thinking using your fan mount as-is. But if you notice any degradation on the fan, I'm thinking I'll design a more protected case/holder for the fan.

Also, I assume you just had the fan mount glued to the plate and didn't add any screw to secure it in place?

Hey mate! yea I've been using it and everything is going well. The fan is great: no degradation, or damage or any other issue. I have been using it for about 10-12 objects, about 15-17h hours of use - my standard cycle is 1h humidifier+fan on, then half an hour of only fan on.
Just one thing to remember (cause I did this mistake): do not use the fan at full speed, the airflow is too strong.
Reduce the voltage of the fan to make it run 30%. To make it easier for me I bought a 12v fan and powered with 5v. This RPM is perfect for me.

Yes I just glued it, I didn't want to drill too many holes on the plate cause I was worried about possible leaks.
