This is a piece I crafted while learning to sculpt in Blender. I am releasing it as a primer to a new tabletop experience that we are developing called Primeval.
You can get early access to the rules by becoming a Patron here: Become a Patron!
The idea behind Primeval is to build a game from the ground up that can be a simple as a short-format wargaming experience with the option of building that experience out into an epic campaign.
The first edition of the rulebook will allow the use of your own miniatures and terrain. The rules account for play by using a ruler, square grid, or hex tiles -- each section will clearly define rules for each type of setup, so you have a wide variety of ways to set up your maps.
You'll start in the world of Primeval with a tutorial fight. The core rulebook will cover additional scenarios that will unfold the mechanics of the game in a way that makes it feel natural and informative.
Arena Mode is fairly straight forward. One to Four players alternating turns until one stands victorious. The AI is designed to be intelligent without being cumbersome, and can be scaled to make experiences more difficult, or less intimidating.
In the Campaign Mode, your character is not locked into a single class. Your character grows in a way that you decide throughout the course of the campaign. One day you might be a typical spell-slinging, staff-wielding wizard, but the next you might be an hammer-crushing, heavily-armored battlemage.
Campaign scenarios will take you to some of the furthest reaches of the wastes, to the tallest snow-tipped peaks, and deepest dungeons with the darkest secrets. You'll battle all manner of monster; minion and master alike.
As the campaign unfolds, you'll gain access to followers, settlements, crafting, and wandering masters that are willing to train you in their ways of war (for a price).
Your adventures will take a toll on your character -- the Permadeath option yields higher rewards, but if your character dies or you choose to retire, you will need to choose a new champion to succeed them and take up their cause. The Legacy mechanic provides an interesting new way to play the game. With each succession, your characters become more powerful, but will your gamble pay off?
Only one player may Ascend. Your actions must be with purpose. Cooperation will get you far, but at some point you will need to claim your Ascension while preventing the others from doing the same at any cost.
Welcome to PRIMEVAL.
