This is an early version of the SpaceX certification helmet replica that I designed. (the replica, not the actual helmet) Version 1 has been successfully printed although the small inserts may be to thin to print. A possible replacement is card stock. At this point, I make no grantee that version 2 pieces will fit.
Current scale is meant for a 6.5 inch wide head with the helmet's wide at approximately 8.5 inches. Check pieces for sufficient width when scaling down for children.
This is my attempt at replicating the SpaceX helmet that was used for certification for astronauts on the Dragon V2 as part of NASA's Commercial Crew incentive to launch astronauts from America soil. The first certification flight of Dragon V2 (DM-1) will hopefully occur in January of 2019 from the historic launch complex 39a in Cape Canaveral Florida.
V1 - Between 12/26 and 12/31 - Original version
V2 - Posted 12/31 - Cut "top" piece into "top_piece1_V2, top_piece2_V2, top_piece3_V2 pieces better for printing. No geometry changed and is backward compatible
"back" and "bottom" piece were changed to be more accurate and blend together better. back_v2 is technically backwards compatible but unnecessary. bottom_v2 is not compatable with back_v1 (aka "back").
I made a couple additional cuts to reduce support material. The parts are layed aproximately where they should be joined. The "Top" pieces should be switched. My bad....
