I found the best method was to use guitar piks. You can get them for cheap and they are always the same thickness.

Guitar picks come in a range of thicknesses, although exact measurements wouldn't be particularly far apart.

I just wish I knew what sort of height difference I should be aiming for. Some people say it should be as high as you can get it while passing calibration, while others say it needs to be as close to the nozzle height as possible. Others say it should be between 0.7mm and 1.0mm difference.

I've had the best luck at <= .7mm. .5 and .6 usually seem to work.

What were your settings for the top surface, bottom surface and perimeters?
