Just wondering, was this casing necessary or could I use the stock metal mount with the new lcd?

At least in my case it didn't fit in the original mount. The display was offset and the rotary encoder was not center on the hole. So I didn't even bother checking the fit for the screws.

If you do have time I would also be interested in a back plate, anyway great work on this many thanks

I just wanted to add a comment that the stock display can still be used by connecting to EXP1 but rotated by 180 degrees. You might need to cut the notch off the plug to fit it. Of course you need to enable CR10_STOCKDISPLAY to drive it from Marlin.

However if you can find a reprap display with SD card slot, then that would be an awesome addition to the MKS GEN-L board that doesn't include one. The EXP2 connector handles the SD card signals.

Now you will have to design a back cover

I also had to flip the EXP 1 & 2 connectors on the reprap discound graphics lcd display. Seems to be normal between MKS and RepRap. I did that by lifting up the plastic part of the plug on the board and flipped it 180° so I didn't have to cut into the plug. However I wanted the SD card and the RepRap Discount full graphics lcd has a SD Slot. Yes the SD is handled by EXP 2 but I think there is no VCC on that so you need an adapter if you want a standalone sd slot for the stock ender display.

PS: A back cover is not my top priority. I don't have a problem with touching the pcb.
