Hi, I use Mach 4 and and control the laser power via spindle PWM and on/off via an axis direction pin on the breakout board. Seems to work OK for basic cutout/engraving but is VERY slow for raster/image burning. Im experimenting with a purpose-built GRBL Arduino Nano setup at the moment and will do an Instructable once i have it perfected.

what controller board do you have right now?
what is possible to cut and engrave with the module you have?

I currently use an Ethernet SmoothStepper with Mach 4. I have tested cutting card/paper/gaskets. I mainly use it for engraving text/images onto a variety of surfaces.

Very nice design
How do you control the laser?
