I wanted something that did not require too much space, and that was both nice and quick/easy to print. The main idea is that the column can be quickly printed as a spiral vase. The base is not too bulky and will also print in less than one hour.
The column is lightly twisted, but the 15 mm segment that slits in the base is straight. When you print it, the straight side shall be placed on top and will remain open, while the opposite part will become the (closed) top. Although the STL is already rotated to achieve such result, I would recommend double-checking its position before slicing.
Edit: I noticed that the base is better printed with 15% infill (originally it was 5%), as it provides better support to the thin top layers.
These settings apply to the base. For the column I used the spiral vase setting in Slic3r, with a 0.2 layer height, 0.8 mm wall thickness and 3 solid layers at the bottom.
