I really like this idea and will certainly put it to use. I'm a little confused though. Do I print out the mesh bed separately and next print the battery holder bottom, standoffs and top and set them on the mesh? Also is everything printed at 0% infill? Thanks

No, you do not have to print the mesh base out separately. I included that file in case people wanted to make a battery holder to hold a different configuration of batteries than what I designed. This way they did not have to make their own version of the mesh style baseplate (i took me way longer than I want to admit to make it for myself lol)

If you print out the file "battery_holder_mesh_base.stl" that will hold the bottom of the batteries.
then pick out which spacers you want to use, as few or as many as you want. Just for symmetry and looks I use 2 9v spacers, 2 AAA spacers 2AA spacers 1 C spacer and 2 D spacers
then you can print out "Battery_holder_top.stl" to finish the project
then all you need to do is add a few drops of CA glue to hold it all together

I hope that helps

Infill is not an issue since there isn't anything in the design that is thick enough to use infill

Please let me know if you have any other questions

Thanks Lorddrake. I now understand. I was only looking at the battery holder top, bottom, spacers and mesh when like you said I should have looked at the battery_holder_mesh_base.stl. I don't think I've ever printed with 0% infill so this should go pretty fast.

It should work vertically (as long as you glue the parts together) , but I have not tried mounting it that way yet to confirm

Great design! Does take up a bit of real estate though when horizontal so wondering if it will also hold the batteries vertically or would it need to be redesigned with a slight tilt?

Hey, great project!
If this was parametric (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1201466) it would be AWESOME!

I guess OpenSCAD is the next software i need to learn :)

The title is: "Battery Holder- customize to fit" but, as of this writing, you only uploaded stl files. Where's the source code so we can customize? OpenSCAD would be ideal, but please upload what you have.

Thanks for the comment David. I only have the .stl files that I exported from tinkercad where I made the battery organizer. I gave files for each of the different battery types so you could import and use them to suit your needs. Sorry I don't have anything else to offer, I am new to 3d modeling and I am self taught so it is still a journey.

OK - thanks for the prompt reply. If the tinkercad object is public, maybe you could add a link to the object description on https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3429076 . Example: the description on my https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3402429
