I have been trying to design and make 3D printed racing drone to practice flying. I came to realize that purely 3D printed racing drone frames are not durable enough for this type of drone. The frames just fell apart after every crash.
From then, I've tried to combine 3D printed part with other materials such as wooden dowel rods, aluminum angle bar but the results were still disappointing. Those materials made the frame a bit more durable but still broke apart after one or two crashes (the aluminum angle bar just got bent).
I finally found a type of carbon fiber (CF) rods (solid rods, not tubes) that you can buy for a cheap price on eBay ($5 for a set of 5 with 50cm length, 4mm diameter). These rods are light weight, stiff and durable, just perfect for racing drone.
All the parts can be printed without support (that's how I printed them).
