Image2stl,is a software that allows the creation of 3D object from a 2D base (jpg or png). Associating the colors to values extrusion, the program detects differences in color level to translate the 2D to 3D. Thus, an image composed of a gradient from black to white gradient will create a volume.

This application has been designed by the Association Design The Future Now and developed by Joël Belouet.

Currently, image2stl only takes jpg, jpeg or png with a colored background (white and black included - no transparency) preferably in contrast to the subject of the image. Each color represents a brightness value used differently, and therefore translation image2stl a value different extrusion. Thus, an image composed of a gradient going from white to black will create a volume having the shape of a slope.

Awesome, thanks. A lot of the 2d to 3d tools I come across are windows only.

Any ideas for a processing tool that will remove the spikes?

I've searched internet for the windows version and find it. But it doesn't install on my Windows 8.1.

This is great!  Are you likely to release the source code?

This appears to be a processing sketch - should be easy to create windows and linux versions, and I'm sure others would be more than happy to do that for you if you do choose to release the sketch itself.

You made open source software to only run on an Apple?
Go away now.

PropellerScience, are you seems to be too close-minded to be an open source defender ? ... Wait some weeks and look outside, maybe santa will bring you a Windows or Linux version ! Be a good boy !

Hey, we did it for our use first and yes, we work on apple...This is totally free, and if you want to complete it... You're welcome!

Sorry I meant my comment for PropellerScience. OSX got something before windows :).

It sounds great. Is there any possibility of a Windows or Linux version?

No. We only have this one for now... We will put other version as soon as we can...
