Summary

Been a while since I designed a chess set, and I realized that I've never actually printed one, so... here it is! Big props to Emmett for his amazing modular chess board design which served as inspiration to start this little project: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:224664

The set is available in the Steam Workshops for Tabletop Simulator (an amazing program you should probably just go ahead and pick up if you don't have it). You can find that here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=392147227

Thank you for your amazing design!!! We wrote about this in our webpage!! http://www.filamentix.com/juegos-de-mesa-e-impresion-3d-que-buena-pareja/

I'm having some issues with the icons on the board itself. It seems like my printer is dragging extra lines in the images. What would be a good way I can fix this in the slicing?

I had a problem slicing the Robopawns in Makerware but No trouble at all when I used ReplicatorG. Not sure of the cause.

I printed this in PLA and the wizard bishops won't stand on their own, they fall over backwards. Any suggestions?

You'll have to increase the solid layers at the bottom in your slicer settings. Else Dutchmogul had some good ideas with the coins an stuff.

Hm, maybe print at a higher infill? Or glue a washer or coin to the bottom? You could also modify it so it has a wide base at the bottom.

Hey, great set! Been working on printing it out and I noticed the Wizard Bishop has about 51762 errors when I open the stl in Slic3r. Any chance you have a cleaned up version of that piece?

You know, I've never used, Slic3r, but if you run the piece through here that should fix it for you: https://netfabb.azurewebsites.net/

Using PLA... What layer and infill did you use to print this thingy?

I did a .1 layer height and 10% infill for mine, though mine were printed in ABS.

Hey, beautiful job! I'm glad to see someone making use of my chessboard.

Hey, thanks, Emmett! Yeah, I loved your design and I'd been wanting to make a set for it for a while. Everyone should use this board of yours.

One of the most beautiful chess and characters design i have ever seen on Thingiverse !
Very Clean design !

Beautiful piece of work!

Congrats on the feature - well deserved:-)

Awesome - will print this in Bendlay and add LEDs - thought about doing Wizards in BendLay and Robots in Bronze or Wood Fill, but Bronze is too expensive. Also planning to do the board from wood with laser engraving the symbols and adding a light rabbet and a wooden basement to each print

well, someone needs to do that! I'll give it a shot if I have enough bronze. I'm thinking robots in bronzefill and wizards in woodfill.

This is so cool man!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wish I could make one.

Hi, dutchmogul! This is very impressive. Thanks for posting.
I have a question about licensing. The original chess board is licensed under a Creative Commons - Attribution - Share Alike license, while this thing is released under a different license (non-commercial). How does that comply with emmett's license?

Oh, haha, thanks for noticing that. I put that one down as a force of habit. I meant to use the same license that he used for his. Should be fixed now.

so we could print and sell it - how much would the license for this cost from you? just theoretically

The board structure is derivative, but as for the pieces, shoot me an email with an offer. I'm definitely open to discuss it. [email protected]
