During the 90’s I experimented with the development of climbing axes, they were hybrid carbon fibre / aluminium for a lighter more technical axe. Later I moved on to develop fully cast carbon fibre axes. This mould was made about 20 years ago in 2001 using PTC pro/E 2000i and was “milled out” (old fashioned 3D printed) with MasterCAM on a 5 axis CNC milling machine. The process for manufacture was to expand the carbon fibre into the mould using a bladder. This particular mould made one prototype for viability studies but nothing further was done and the project was abandoned. It should be considered a pre-prototype which was abandoned early into development and in no way functional.
