This is a design to take the M3D QuadFusion print head and replace the small motors on it with your own bowden extrusion motors.
For my implementation I decided to go with the Voron Mobius 3 extruder which in all likelyhood is overkill for this effort but it looks REALLY COOL.
You'll need to print the hat on it's side with supports. I have a threaded version up but plan to add a heat insert version for better, stronger threading.
There are more tweaks that probably need to be done to the hat to make it as easy to print and as clean as possible. But like all good things this will come through more iterations of the design.
I fixed the alignment of the bowden hat to better align with the holes on the quadfusion body. To prevent buckling it's important to insert PTFE tubes in the hat. I'll post some pictures to show later.
Tightened up the tolerances and alignment a little bit more to remove a little play I noticed in the previous version. Also depending on your printer you may need to take a 5/32 drill bit to drill out the holes where the small PTFE segments will be inserted.
Adjusted the height that the screw holds in to get the hat a little more snug. Also made the brackets on the hat which hold the screw a little thicker to give it a little more strength.
Added a picture of a dragon I recently printed with this setup.
Amazon Basic PETG
You'll want this to have strength so I recommend printing in PETG or ABS.
Parts you'll need
You'll need some hardware to get this put together
8 x M2x6
8 x M2 Nuts
You'll want to install the plugs and when you put the nuts on you'll want them to be just a little loose so there is some play on the plug.
1 x M3x30 Screw
1 x M3 Nut
This screw will go through the top screw hole on the QuadFusion print head and should come out the back to help keep the hat in place.
Voron Mobius 3 Crane Brackets
Per Bracket (8 total)
2 x M3x8 Screws
2 x M3 T-Nuts
1 x M4x6 Screw
1 x M4 Nut
This is used to hold the Mobius3 Extruders to the top of the frame.
Voron Mobius3 Extruder
The use of this extruder is optional. There are many other extruders available that you can print and use. But if you are interested please visit http://vorondesign.com/voron_mobius3 for a BOM and build instructions.
