Remix of the original Whirlygig to lower the weight and improve flight performance.
Printed frame is 5-6 Grams with ABS. Please note the file dates before printing as I am keeping the old stuff here as an archive of sorts.
A couple major changes besides...
- DYS F20A 4 in 1 ESC 20A, instead of the Emax 6A bullet ESC. (Akion 20 x 20 is good too)
- Emax RS1106-4500kv Motors
- AVAN MINI 3 INCH PROPELLER
- Camera should be mounted over the FC.
Update 6-7-2019: Optimized both 2 and 3" frames.
Update 6-6-2019: Added a beefed up Tilt-Mech.
Update 6-4-2019: Received the Nylon / Carbon infused print late last week. Finished the rebuild today and performed the Maiden flight after Auto-tuning.
Update 5-27-2019: This frame should hopefully print without the gap seen in the prior builds. (due to 0.4 mm print head) Furthermore, the arms are now 4 mm wide / tall and should allow for carbon reinforcement. (Air Foil shaped) I would still suggest limiting the amount of hollow space within the arms to help provide more stiffness. Thanks to the removal of the servo holder, the entire print is inverted so supports are no longer needed! From this point on a Nylon M2 screw is used thru the frame to support the servo via its tab. Now as needed a Zip-Tie can still be used to provide additional support.
Update 5-22-2019: Change the arms a bit for better support and smoother airflow.
Update: Made a 3" Prototype using the first set of files. Copter flies at 10-15% throttle using the 4S-LiPo! However as the throttle is lowered the frames flexibility causes the copter to oscillate as it descends thru it's own wash. Will make one of the latter file updates with reinforced carbon fiber to see if this corrects the issue or not.
Note: Build weight is 120 Grams with Lipo / Props.
Update 5-19-2019: Added screw-hole for the servo for those wanting to mount it without using a zip-tie.
