I am currently working off of this design and adding the design to the flare surface areas of each piece, it's difficult since every piece is different and should all be different but so far after a lot of work I've got most of the sides desined.

Sounds awesome! :)

Thanks man hahaha. I finally found an easy pattern to get the design and then the other day my computer decided it doesn't want to work anymore. It sucks haha but once it works again I'll only have one piece left.

What kind of material would you recommend for making it most accurately???

I always wanted to have an aluminium cast of it, but if you just want to print it, it doesn't really matter if you're using PLA or ABS, since the quality most likely depends on the printer itself.

How much did it cost? I've never printed 3D before.

well the parts were less than a quarter of a kilogram and the spool cost me around 30 Euros. I didn't pay for the printer. As for printing as a service - no idea what the cost can be these days.

So how do you get the texture of it all once it's printed? Or can it be printed with the texture?

I did that with a soldering iron... I have no idea how I could add texture to it in the model since I use 123D Design.

Oh okay. Thanks. I figured a soldering iron would be used. I guess there is probably a way to add the texture somehow. I'll figure it out eventually I guess haha.

A mysterious and powerful device, whose mystery is exceeded only by its power.

Is it just me, or are the dimensions a little bit off? It should have a circumference of 28.98cm or a 9.22cm diameter according to the blueprints, and yours seems to have a diameter of only 9.02cm... ;)

Oh dear, you got me there ;) is this a swiss vs. german engineering thing? I started with an 80mm ball and later found the blueprint so scaled it all up.. as you have probably already seen, there are no details on the cutted sides as well:(

Well I looked at the design and could improve the sadtech version. It is now bigger on the inside so i can save 1mm radius ;)

Could it be time dilation?

wouldn't that just shift the color? (really no idea here)

Hadn't thought of red shift...

It would be really cool if there were slots for those little square magnets, so it would click together like it does on the show. Bonus points if it can do something like travel through time.

here you go. Magnet holes. And fixed nobble position.

I thought about that, the easiest way right now would be to drill in some holes and take cylindrical magnets. I also misplaced the wobbles and have to revisit that. The structure on the sphere can be achieved by a small hot soldering iron, I guess.
