T-glase filament holder for the Ultimaker 2
by dkaygee

I just printed one out and, as xenomachina mentions below, it tilts down a bit, which will either cause your Taulman roll to slide off immediately, or, not slide off immediately, and instead half slide off on a time delay when you have let it go and assume everything is fine. I will do some testing / wedging material in and around it to try and fix it. Beyond that, this is a solid part that would appear to work if you can fix the tilting problem.

I printed one of these so I could use a monoprice spool on my UM2. Thanks for sharing this.

A few suggestions/feature-requests:

  • It tilts down from the machine, rather than lying horizontally. I noticed that the holder included with the UM2 has 2 "fins" under the large round opening that prop it up when connected to the printer. Without these there's nothing to hold it up. I ended up wedging a block of cardboard between it and the back of the printer as a workaround.
  • I added a strip of frosted clear tape to the top edge. This seems to help reduce friction.
  • There doesn't seem to be anything to stop a spool from sliding off the end. I added a small vertical hole before printing. I then stick a dowel in this hole to stop the spool from sliding off. (I didn't just include a post in the model, as I worried that this might cause trouble with really narrow spools, though in retrospect that probably would have been a better option).
