I permitted myself to play with the file a bit to add some customizable text on the outer surface of the ring. Thanks a lot to Benjamen Johnson for designing the original piece and sorry for my comments in the script being in German.
I assume that the details in the current size are a bit too fine for an FDM machine, but I will still give it a shot and try to post a make in case it is successful.
If you have and SLA printer (which I don't have) this might be a nice thing for your loved ones to make for. When printing it with an FDM printer I would recommend ABS/ASA and then refining the surface with the acetone method.
The file of course remains fully customizeable in all directions and you are free to choose a name or word that you like, I just used "Alex" as an example. If you use too many characters for your text, the writing will mess itself up but you will figure that out by yourself.
Let me know if you like the idea and please feel free to share you makes.
3DJAKE ecoPLA PLA
I was first trying to print this on my Anycubic i3 MEGA S with 0,1mm layer height with a speed of 40 on the inside and 25 for the walls. I went with only a skirt and for the first time it created no ring but a nice large solid piece of PLA dangeling around the nozzle.
A brim on the inside AND on the outside is recommended by me due to that reason to avoid such bed adhesion problems.
I played with the settings in the script of the SCAD file and YouTube lessons helped me understand the code that is required to wrap a text around a round object.
There are better and more sophisticated ways to do that but for me it was just a project to learn how SCAD files work in general and it kinda did the trick.
You can change pretty much anything about this ring using the configurable variables at the right side of OpenSCAD.
Feel free to play a bit the rings shape, size and diameter as programmed by BenjamenJohnson or set the parameters, size and proudness of the font as added by me.
In case you would like to modify the font type or style (I have currently set Arial Black) you need to change that in the script section on the left side of the OpenSCAD interface by typing which one you would like and in which style you want it. There is a list of fonts available in OpenSCADs help section at the very bottom of the dropdown menu.
