I am new in 3D printing. I am printing with a Lulzbot TAZ 4.
From what type of material do you propose to print this duct? PLA or ABS?
Recently I am experiencing clogging of the PLA in my nozzle. Will this upgrade minimize this?

With regards,

Is there an scad or source file you could share? I would love to remix a version with holes for thermal inserts.

Hey Steve, it doesnt need thermal inserts. The holes are just thru holes to allow the screw to thread through the thermal inserts on the extruder block of the Taz 4.

But plastic threads are shoddy at best. It may not need thermal inserts, but I agree that it would be nice to have the option. Threaded metal inserts hold up a lot better to repeated disassembly/reassembly than just-jam-a-screw-in threads. Would you please share the source file? It'd be greatly appreciated! :)

P.S. There are plenty of models on Thingiverse that don't bother to download simply because they chose not to use metal inserts. They sacrifice strength and quality for (questionable) cost and time savings. For those brave enough to foray into 3D-printing, I think a soldering iron and an order from McMaster-Carr are practically prerequisites.

I guess its hard to explain the design over comments. Ill try one more time. This is for a Lulzbot Taz 3 or 4. The holes are purely 'mounting holes'. They are not interference thread holes. They are simply there to hold the duct in place. The two screws go THROUGH the holes and thread into inserts that are already on Taz 4 extruder block... Hope this clears things up.

I was referring to the four holes used to screw the fan itself onto the shroud. ;)

Haha awe... my mistake my friend. Yes, that would be convenient for taking on and off the fan. You can actually probably just set them with the holes currenty on the model.

Nope. I tried.

What fan does this use?

Just a standard 40mm PC fan

Why the split air flow?

To create "some-what" equal air flow to both nozzle and and filament guide.
