Summary
This is a NEMA 17 template to cut 3mm or 1/8 inch cork board
The cork board reduces noise and vibration of the motors in your 3d printer.
This variation uses cork on both the motor and screws that attach the motor.
If you can't find cork board or don't feel like doing this, you can always purchase these very nice laser cut cork gaskets from MBI here: http://store.makerbot.com/accessories/nema-17-cork-gasket-pack.html
Update 02/12/11: with a new design and a DXF
Instructions
-
Go to Michael's craft store and pick up a pack of 3mm cork discs. They are $1.99 for a pack of 4.
-
Print out the template.
-
Place template on cork, trace around the template or simple cut around the template. You'll need to cut two per motor.
-
Drill the M3 holes out.
-
Take out your motors and use one cork spacer on the motor face. This is between the motor and the mount on the bot.
-
Put another cork spacer on the opposite side were the screw heads will be touching. (note: you will have to make a notch in the cork for the y-axis to fit)
-
Use (4) M3 X 16 screws and screw into motor.
-
Repeat until all your motors are corked.
- Relish in the reduced noise and vibrations!
