smartrap was my first printer. still loving it
as i needed a bigger size. i design this one
so here is the Fabrap

16/10/14 "z rod and motor holder" updated, hole for screw wasn't going thru !
a forum dedicated to the fabrap for evolution and amélioration will be soon created

25/11/14 Fabrap 1.1 is out
full gt2 on all axis


all the part were made on my smartrap
i cut the glass 300474 , for full size you need 400474 and adjust base parta-1 length

I'm using Solidworks
Maybe the best cad program i ever learn (not free but you can find student version)

What program did you use to design?

what size are the stepper motors?

i also add two symmetrical part to hold best the z rod (renfort z left and right)

I am currently printing my parts; It will be a few days. I have already modded the X-axis to use rack and pinion. I have also made a mount for a Hexagon Hotend (based on Jhead mount for smartrap by Quick61's design) it should work on Jhead and other groove-mount hotends as well.

I have yet to finish work on the bed parts for rack and pinion, but I'm working on them.

As soon as I've tested it and everything works, I'll be sure to post the files.

could you please upload the caps you put over the linear bearings on the x-base? Thanks :)

Really amazed by this design, Now we need to customize the x_front part to accommodate verity of hotends !

...and different drive options; I will be modding this to accept a Hexagon hotend and rack and pinion on x and y.

Just in time! I was planning on making a smartrap in a similar rod configuration! This will save me a lot of guesswork! I can't thank you enough for uploading this!
