Fits the MK7 and MK8 StepStruders.

I didn't like the idea that the Delrin Plunger in the MakerBot Replicator was a wearable part that was destined to fail eventually, so I took out my plunger, measured it, and reproduced it in AutoCad. I printed it in PLA so that it would be sturdy enough to hold up for a while and so far, it has produced more than a dozen prints and it doesn't look to be any more worn out than when I first put it in. I put my original plunger in a safe place, and when this one wears out, I can just print another one.

Thank you for this too. You fixed all the extrusion problems on my replicator 1 dual. My replicator had issues with the old plungers being worn with no replacements and all I could find were the extruder upgrades that needed extra parts. Now I can simply print out a few replacement plungers and swap them in when needed. :)

Thank you so much for this! I want to print the extruder upgrade (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:28241)http://www.thingiverse.com/thi..., but my plunger won't print properly for too long. This plunger is a small part, and I can get my replicator to print consistently just long enough to print this!

Thank you!

Minimalistic Mk8 replacement

will it work for the replicator 2

I've been printing with this same plunger now for nearly 3 months. I've gone through a spool and a half of ABS during that time.

I'm using one of these now to replace a worn-out delrin plunger. Nice job rkelley.

Did you really print it sideways like that? It seems more printable if you stand it up.

I did print it standing up. It worked well.

Great idea! I'd worry about a PLA plunger getting soft and gooey inside the extruder. Have you had any problems there?

I have had no problems at all. The heat doesn't get high enough into the extruder to even make the plunger or the surrounding plastic warm.

What's the longest print you've run since replacing it?

I printed a part yesterday that took 4 hours and 43 minutes. Most of my other print jobs with this plunger have finished in about an hour.
