I got some spools of filament in that were a little to big for the stock spool holder that comes with the Makerfarm 8" Prusa i3v, so I made a little extender for it to accomodate this.
--Update--
I have uploaded a Version 2 of the base that contains a cutout for the screw that can get in the way.
--Update 2--
I have uploaded a "short" version of the base which will not come so close to the Z-Axis rod, as well as a Version 2 that includes a tool holder. Additionally, I have uploaded a top piece with a cut for those rolls that have the filament coming through the center.
Instructions
Printed on a Makerfarm 8" Prusa i3v in ABS at 0.20mm layer height and 20% infill.
Use the stock vertical members and the same hardware as the stock spool holder.

I printed one with the V2 base. Works great. Used 30% fill for strength and PLA. It holds the wide spools without issue now.
Thank you for this it worked like a champ! I also love the finish on your I3v. I was actually planning on doing the same thing.
Is there any chance you could incorporate this? http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:410126. I think if that was possible it would make a great combination item.

I also just read that if your rods are not straight, locking them into a holder, it going to cause torque on your x axis, besides messing with the z axis, and could mess up your prints, so unless you have straight rods, it wouldn't be a good idea. I plan on looking in to some new rods at some point as the ones I got from makerfarm wobble pretty well.
I just printed out the V2 and it works like a charm. Thanks for this I was super bummed when the spool holder that came with the kit was too small.
