Lasercut Waffle Structure Laptop Stand. Easy to use press-fit connections. Feel free to use it as you wish! It works great! I made it for my wife, whose laptop overheats whenever using photoshop or rendering an image. The design is based on being as open as possible to allow air to freely pass through on all sides and optimally cool down the device. Test it out for your self if you have access to a laser or cnc router. More variants can be found at http://www.lasercuttinglab.com
Download the .dxf file and open it up, the dxf is the only file you need if you are using 3/16" (or 4.76mm) plywood, I added the original model and a .stl as well for anyone who may want to slice it up differently (for example with 123D make which has great features) or for anyone who may want to add parts to the design or simply use it as a reference for your own design.
Note: you can slice up the segments of the design very easily, just download '23D Make' for free and import the .stl file into it. Within minutes you will have a custom sliced file ready to cut!
I used 3/16" (or 4.76mm) plywood to make my stand, if using a different size plywood make sure to rescale the interlocking slots.Again this can be done in a number of different software programs, such as the one mentioned above. I recommend using 3/16" as its cheap and thin enough for most laser cutters to easily cut. If anyone else has a good effects using a different material please let me know.
If you do not have access to a laser cutter, Laser Cutting Lab, LLC will be offering this as a complete kit for a low price. See http://www.lasercuttinglab.com for more details.
