Want to buy me a coffee? :-) http://buymeacoff.ee/3dwp

This is a remix of http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:502300.
I have made the scan solid, edited the mesh with smoothing tools and remeshed it all. Also made a flat base, oriented it and scaled it up. Thanks to jerry7171 for another great scan!

If you like what I post, consider buying me a coffee ;-) http://buymeacoff.ee/3dwp

(I did all editing with the wonderful and free MeshMixer: http://www.meshmixer.com)

Is the real statue also this much tilted forward? It can barly stand upstraight by itself..

Forest Lawn Cemetery in Los Angeles had an exact half scale replica made of it... in the 1972 Sylmar Earthquake, it snapped off at the ankles... they rebuilt it with improvements and had its grand unveiling in the spring of 1987... in october of that year they were hit with the Whittier Earthquake... You Guessed it, it snapped off at the ankles again... Not sure if they rebuilt it after that.

I have not seen the real statue, but you might be interested in an article I just read: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/21/magazine/davids-ankles-how-imperfections-could-bring-down-the-worlds-most-perfect-statue.html

In about the 8th or 9th paragraph, it reads, "The center of gravity in the base doesn’t align with the center of gravity in the figure itself; when the base is level, in other words, the David’s body is slightly off-balance. "

Actually, this article prompted me to search to see whether anyone had made a 3D scan/model available.

Wow, thanks for the info. So it is tilted :-)
Lets just hope the original won't collapse..

I love what you've done. You took my bad scan and turned it into something great. I need to find some resources on Meshmixer as I'm having a difficult time understanding how it works. But just the same you are a miracle worker. Thank you!

Yeah, he did a beautiful job but I am like you I can't work Meshmixer at all as it does more damage than it does good in my hands. :(

Well I'm not like an artist, I have never created anything with a modeler. I just use it to repair and edit and that is not that hard with MeshMixer if you know where to find the functions. Autodesk has a few clips on Youtube that are a good start and should get people excited about the possibilities: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?action_edit=1&list=PLu8TYSQ5jCFjdQBHsLoybhdKXOTmpTRlb

And with the sculpt tools it's important to use the sliders when for instance you smooth areas on a model.

Let me be the first and say "OMG, he has a penis", lol.

I absolutely hate the prudes who would deface this master's work of art because it shows a part of the human anatomy. Sad, but they really do. :(

Oh, great scan.

let me be the first and say "OMG, he is gay", lol
