These frames are designed to be used to make multilevel scenes using Openforge and Dwarven Forge dungeon tiles. These can be used to build buildings with many levels, as well as just being frames that let you build your rooms ahead of time.
Every frame piece has holes the size of the wire from large paperclips. If you want to create floors with bigger frames, or for tiles of many sizes, you can wire the frames together. Run the paperclip through the holes of both frames, bend down into the notch and cut with a wire cutter. In testing, this is quite strong. This set was inspierd by the now defunct Upworks kickstarter campaign. My design is fairly different, but the idea came from there.

I was trying to do the same thing, using some trays with edges around them to hold the tiles.... one thing I tried (but I'm not all that good at modeling) was instead of trying to make a raised edge around the sides was to make a raised edge on the interior.

DwarvenForge tiles have a tiny recessed area under each tile, have you considered making a (very small) raised ridge about 1/8" or so back from the edge on these frame so that DwarvenForge tiles simply "rest" on top of the raised bits?

(I realize these would only work for the DF tiles, and not the OpenForge ones since they are flat on the bottom. Perhaps it might not be hard to produce as a separate tray option...)

I love your method for joining the frames, I was just going to superglue mine together but this works much better.

For Openforge 2.0 I'm actually working on a way that integrates the frame into the part. Obviously it wouldn't work with dwarven forge. However, the new style does allow for printing a base that gives that same gap underneath. Here's a link to the beta test: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1276680

Right now the bases for tha t join using paperclips, but I'm also considering making an option that does the joining via filament like these do.

Are you actively modifying your previous files to have the lip mentioned in the other comments? I'm not sure what that would look like so if you already have I wouldn't know.

I'm planning on bulk printing a lot of your stuff in a month or so, but I'd hate to have to reprint them. lol

I'll start posting these soon, but if you pull from my new github repos, that's where the new tiles will end up first.

oh, and lip in this case basically means the new frame has a small area on top that rises up to go in a small groove on the new tiles to hold them into place.

Also with the tile updates, I've added a hole for magnets should a person wish to have their tiles be magnetic.

What keeps the tiles from falling off the tray when you move the level? There doesn't seem to be a lip like the UpWorks sets had.

That's correct. None of my tiles have a space for the lip, so until I get them all redesigned to add the space for the lip, I figured it was better to get a frame out now. Once I get some tiles released with a gap underneath for the lip, I'll add a second group of frames.
