Thanks for Shasta. I grew up in Redding CA. and on clear days we could see it shining to the north.

How do you make these models from DEMs?

I use a free program called Maperative, which downloads elevation data from the open street map project. Not sure where the original data came from, maybe from NASA. I then import the models into sketchup and do some post processing in meshlab and netfabb.
