Lots of nested TRDs. SketchUp's Section Plane tool proved very helpful in finding errant interior geometry. Were there but a way in SketchUp to automate the finding and removal of interior faces and vertices!

More on how I made the print into a light sculpture here: https://plus.google.com/100359942295102553261/posts/hxKRGbCbemW

there is a way to make SketchUp automatically find errant geometry and other common errors such as holes that make the model open hulled.
here is a link to the add on: http://extensions.sketchup.com/en/content/solid-inspector

Right, I use it all the time and used it on this model. An invaluable plugin! I intentionally left the feet open because I wanted the bottoms to stay flat when running the Artisan plugin on the model. The MakerBot slicer doesn't seem to care if the bottoms are open as long as they are on the print bed layer, so to speak.

I was having an issue printing this model. The 'legs' were ripping off the waste board. I connected the legs and made a 'base' for this model, it printed much easier. Here's a link if you think you'll need the same:

Original Creator: You may add this modification to your page if you like.

Can anyone write their print settings or give me some suggestions? This is the only print that I have had problems with. It keeps collapsing partway through the print. I have tried making tape with glue as the base and many other modifications. Any help would be much appreciated.

Are you using rafts? I did for the print shown in the photos. Otherwise it was a standard setting Makerware print. .2mm layers, 2 shells, 10% fill.

Very cool! Awesome geometry

It really reminds me of Sol Lewitt's cube Structures!

Yeah, I totally get that. I haven't seen LeWitt's work in years, and wasn't thinking of it, but maybe in the back of my mind somewhere... http://www.pacegallery.com/artists/261/sol-lewitt

Awesome! We simply had to make one

what is the print time? i guess a lot ....

On my solidoodle it came out under 2 hours. It is smaller though and also i printed at .4mm

you guess correctly, ~16 hours I think

Mine was only 10 hours at .2mm layer height, what did you print at?

Came out awesome by the way, thank you for the design!

Wow, I'm amazed that you could do this in Sketchup! It's beautiful!

3D maze for a hamster!

Very cool - shows off how great life is that you can print something like this!

Hello ,, Great Job !! It is nice , You print it on the Scotch M3 bleu ?

Do you have issue with small island to stick on the plate ?

Are you using PLA ? or ABS ?

Thank you !

Thanks. Yup, I use the blue tape, so no sticking issues. Using PLA.

Well done for your design and your print. what is your idea if I want to learn Skechup?

solidoworks is much better in my opinion... But if you arent a student it is around $3000

Thanks! Huge set of resources for learning SketchUp listed here: http://www.sketchup.com/learn

SketchUp is a bit like a pencil. Easy to learn the basics, but learning all you can do with it is the task of a lifetime.

I know what this is!

It's my next print.

just playing around with possibilities

what 3D software did you use

Indicate in the description " SketchUp " ??

i dont know what you see.... but i see a nice pen desktop organizer

OH MY GOD! That's a great idea! Thanks, I know what I'm giving my professor this Christmas!

my thoughts exactly...featured?wow

Pay's to know people sometime's I guess :P
