UPDATE 5/12/2015: Now Customizable!
Thank you all for your feedback, many of you have said you wanted a taller version. Now you can open in Customizer and make it as tall as you need. Enjoy! :)
Yet another spool holder for the Printrbot Simple Metal in a vertical configuration, in which the filament line gracefully descends from the spool to the extruder.
This is a two piece design consisting of a base and an arm. The hole in the base is angled 5 degrees to compensate for the leveraged weight of a spool so that the arm remains somewhat level under load.
The length and height position of the arm works for the various small and large hole spools, and the new Makerbot large diameter flat reel.
Print these pieces with medium or higher density since they both will be bearing the force of the weight of a spool. Recommend that the pieces cool completely before they are put into use, otherwise a deformation may occur while they are still warm. Support is not necessary nor recommended.
The base is easy to install if you first fit each hole separately. Make sure that the thicker part of the base slot is in the same direction as the arm because of the leaning design. The arm should tilt upwards when empty, and be nominally level when holding a full spool. OpenSCAD code is included if you need to adjust anything.
