Another rocket design that has a 50's feel. I found the best way to print this is in vase mode, not all slicers will do this so I have also uploaded the x3g Makerbot file for any one wanting to use this mode.

Printed at .3 PLA in vase mode. The bed and printer need to be well tuned to get a good print of this.

Is vase mode an option on the Makerbot machines? I started using this as my test print for dialing in the machines, but i still get the vertical Z seam. I would imagine that this would be resolved if it has a 'vase mode.'

All my prints are that ar posted are usually done on a modified makerbot 2. I do not use makerbot software so I do not know if there is a vase mode in it. I have been using Simplify3D for a number of years and it is so much better than anything else I have tried. Sure you have to pay for it but the cost is long forgotten when your prints just work so well. I would be happy to write you a vase mode x3g file for a Makerbot 2 if you let me have the temp setting you like to print at.

I'm actually using a Z18. I've been printing for about a year but I still consider myself new to printing and the infinite number of options when it comes to print settings and slicers. So I always have questions, such as, how do you send the file to a makerbot machine without using their software? Does Simplify3D see it the same as a computer see's a paper printer?

Ok I do not know anything about the next gen printers. However I have included a link to the Simplify3D site that explains how to set your printer up to use their software if you wish. Hope this helps.

Just printed this ROCKET model on my Monoprice Maker Ultimate! Check out my time lapse video of the print:

Layer Height = 0.20mm using Cura Spiralize Mode

Thanks for a great model Botmaster!

Bruce great design thx for sharing, posted my make of this not fantastic but my first attempt. What printer are you using?

I use a Makerbot for PLA and general printing. If I need better quality I have a Clone R1, this is a prototype printer (there were only about 30 ever made) but it does give fantastic quality prints in all materials. If you can speed up the printer once it has cleared the fins it not only saves you time but gives a better quality print.

Thanks Bruce that Cone R1 looks like a nice unit. I was going to use my I3 Plus / Cocoon create to star off and then at some stage build a Hypercube or Hypecube Evolution. I also need to find a bigger workspace before I can do that. But looks like there are more options out there to build. BTW what CAD do you use to make your designs? I am using Tinkercad but as an Engineer i prefer CAD that also has Parametric and also that will allow me to get 2d plans to pencil check.

it didnt print the fins...I have all 3 nodules and the main body but no fins...any help please?

OK this is not a problem I have had with this model as you can see a number of people have successfully printed it. There are so many factors, printer, slicer, print mode.

This was sliced in Simplyfy 3D. I print this in spiral (vase) mode. @ .3mm layer height. The wall thickness depends on the nozzle you are using most printers use a 0.4 size and that works fine. You can print this a 60-90mm per second. Hope tht helps.

As a total noob, at what should I set the wall thickness?

Thank you. It is a colour called florence yellow PLA, I got it from a seller on Ebay.

Botmaster, Awesome Design! What Filament is that you used?
