Summary

Everyone needs an Art Lab (Art Studio + Laboratory), and every Art Lab needs a sign. This is my first design for my first printer (Da Vinci 1.0). Done in SketchUp.

More about my own Art Lab here: http://museumofperipheralart.blogspot.com/2014/11/grand-opening-art-lab.html

After the initial comments about calibrating my printer, I did that and then printed this MoPA (Museum of Peripheral Art) sign, which is about the size of a business card. Much cleaner print.

DaVinci 1.0, good choice, I own that printer too. Just make sure you adjust the Z axis so your prints come out better! (move the bed a little closer to the extruder nozzle by using the 3 adjustment knobs, so the filament squishes a bit and sticks better!)

Thanks Apeac! I realize I need to make some adjustments. I will try that. Any tips on making the prints come off easier from the bed? I use the glue stick that came with it but sometimes the flatter pieces get really stuck.

I wish I had that problem hah! I guess you just gotta wait for it to cool down and slowly prise it off with the plastic tool they provided. But making it stick firmly to the bed is very desirable as otherwise you could get corner warping or even the extruder getting stuck to the print and ruining the print (as well as potentially the nozzle cleaning device at the back - this almost happened to me when a huge sphere stuck to the head lol!)

Apaec/Michael,
After I calibrated my printer, I printed this MoPA smaller piece (About the size of a business card). It looks much better in person because my macro lens blows it up in the picture. It's a much cleaner print. Thanks again for the tip.

Nice work, from the photo that looks really crisp! As things go, probably the most important part of the print is the first layer so as soon as the bed is at the perfect height the prints start improving quickly ! enjoy the printer and let me know if u run into any other problems

Thanks! Another thing that I changed is that I originally had the printer up on a metal and glass media table (originally made for a flat screen TV to sit on). The internal movement of the printer made the table shake. So I moved the printer to my basement with a concrete floor and put it up on rectangular stone slabs (to raise it up in case any water comes in) so it's got a really rigid platform and does not move at all.

Nice, mine's on my desk and shakes so much I swear I get dizzy haha
I don't have the largest of houses though so i've got nowhere else to put it. It also means I can't sleep when it's printing as the LED and sound make it practically impossible, especially when it's right next to my head.
