Don't get me wrong just trying to help but IMHO completely wrong approach to sort out cooling for small object!

  • Get your temp right extruding too hot won't help and cut off bed if possible
  • Go in the filament Settings tab and increase the "Slow down if layer print time is below:"
  • Go in the Printer Settings tab and put 1mm on "Lift Z"
  • Make sure you have an extra fan to cool the print.
practice as much as you can on printing things like this http://www.thingiverse.com/make:92864 and expecially getting that quality out than you won't need to waste material with your trick.
Hollow Calibration Pyramid

Hi elmuchano, thanks for the feedback. I will try that calibration pyramid you mentioned. Believe me, I experimented plenty with speed, temperatures, cooling parameters and even added a material cooling fan to my Prusa i3v (posted it here as well). However, with delicate printouts, after doing all the tuneup in slic3r, adding this dummys does improve the quality and I am seeing now print quality that I was not achieve before.

I plan to post here two test STL, one with only a test object and one with a test object and two dummys so you and others can try on your own machines.

I want to try also to print the dummy objects with the second extruder (which I don't have). This way I may save material (though it's negligible anyway).
