Im getting a M3D printer.
I doubt the Thorn is gonna fit inside.
What are the dimensions of this beauty?

What material did you print this in?

Any hints on what software to use to cut this, there is no way i can print it in one piece

you can use meshmixer, that's what i used to fit the full size stormtrooper helmet on my printrbot

Hey what are the dimensions for this model?

54 cm long! Measured from furthest points along the barrel/grip.

By any chance do you have any plans to create the sword of crota? I would love to make a full scale version of that!

Oh man you just got me really excited but sadly I was not able to find anything in the database for any of the swords or relics :( My website pulls data from the 3D character previewers so it's limited to inventory equipable weapons, armor and ships. Even though you can equip the Sword of Crota it's not an inventory item.

This may be a job for a more talented CAD modeler than myself to design from scratch ;)

Is there a way to get this file split in half for ease of printing?

Netfab basic will do it and its free. Split the model along the Y axis in Netfab then open in Meshmixer, also free, and make it solid. I used this process to split up the Coiled Hiss 1919 Pulse Rifle STL from the website.

At this point the models are a single solid and you would need to manually split it into different sections. It would be a nice improvement to provide models with multiple parts for easier printing.

Wish I had the slightest clue as to how to do that.

If it's an stl file, you can open TinkerCAD and import the stl, and then duplicate it and copy a rectangle 'hole' to remove the halves of each of the duplicate, rotate them, and lay them flat.

EDIT: Let me know if this works for you!

Destiny Thorn Hand Cannon: Cut for Printing

Tried that with no luck. Please help if you can!

Hey there's a program that you just enter in your maximum printable area and it automatically splits the item into seperate pieces with a peg&hole system to stick it together, I'll try to find the name of it!

Erm it's called 3DPrintTech, the downloadable version doesn't work for STL files, just message their contact Email and ask if you can have the STL compatable version, they sent it to me immediately! Though it only works through certain 3D Generator suites.

Oh shoot! What was wrong with the file? Are there some areas that aren't manifold or something?
