I have been trying to build something similar but I'm having problems in getting a good vortex. The fan is equipped with strong enough magnets like yours (earth magnets). The fan speeds up to a good speed but the moment the fan has the resistance from the magnet (in the water), the fan clearly turns much much slower. Which results in a poor vortex in a 3liter flask. Any idea what kind of fan I can try out? I tried out 80mm fans and 120mm fans (around 0,1 to 0,5 amps 12v).

Kind regards,

Thanks for the idea! I will need to design my own however since I bought a 12cm (120mm) fan instead of 80mm.

I can't wait to try it out for my first yeast starter tomorrow. Thanks for the opportunity to combine two of my hobbies DigitalHomeBrew.

Works pefectly with the parts kit in the link..saves you about 60 bucks and is super easy to assemble..took me about 5 minutes...Awesome!
