Based off the idler wheels, and the track kit dimensions, the tracks are 11/16" wide(17.1875mm), with means the Idlers should be about 17.2mm tall when laying down, giving a rough scaling of 3972.29% from the STL files in the download. except for the one piece that is massive compared to the rest(internal spacer), so figuring out what and where that goes, and adjusting that later. I have the goal of making it as is without the tracks, to then modify it with printed tracks, at approximately 30mm width on the printed tracks, it is only double the current, but can be scaled up easily.

The stl is so small in cura how much should I scale it up?

This idea is perfect!

You know what would be really cool?! Use a longer belt and connect the fronts to the rear (like a tank track) and that'll prevent you from sinking in the snow. Plus you'll have a badass looking truck..

Edit: That might make it hard to steer. -.-

id suggest making one with much wider track and deeper tread, it should help with the sinking problem

Nice. I wonder if a skid plate on the front would help keep the front end up and allow it to take off better without sinking in the snow.

wider is better lol. no seriously though i think if you could use the same design but make it like 3 times wider and print the track from ninjaflex it would be perfect.

I tried to print it but when it shows up on my program the parts look so small. can you tell me the x,y,z, sizes on it if you know them

Very very cool design!..but on the frame the thin arm on the front part might snap off...might make it a bit thicker and/or radius off the sharp edges (shear/high stress points)

I have seen the video and it's not very good for a heavy car because the tracks are too slim. But it's very cool!

I think its cool you designed this. Personally, when I take my RC toys into the snow, I like to use sand paddle tires. They have worked best for me. And I still get lots of wheelie time with my 1/8th scale 4x4 buggy.

I'm trying to make this, but idler1 is off somehow in the files I downloaded. It is HUGE! Scale says something like 0.291, diameter 250mm (9.843"), width of idler is 126mm (4.961"). What should the correct dimensions be?

i agree with copterbuild, needs wider tracks....... but i think the power is fine, just need to displace the weight better on a wider track... totally awesome concept though, wider tracks and ill make it...

In the description I mentioned that the tracks came from a "Tamiya 70100 Track and Wheel Set". You can get these at lots of places, including your local hobby shop. https://www.pololu.com/product/106

would it fit on my traxxas summit 1 16 with 15mm hubs? i have the traxxas 1 16 ford fiesta sway arms so it is more narrow but by any chance if we do not have a printer could we maybe buy it off of you maybe you could start to sell them on ebay?

My Twin Hammers has 12mm hubs, so that is what I designed for. Are you sure your summit has 15mm hubs? I thought that 12mm was pretty standard in the RC world. I don't have any plans to start selling the plastic parts as a kit, but you might be able to find someone on a site like 3Dhubs.com to do it for you. Otherwise Ponoko or Shapeways is a good option.

how would it operate on dirt and would it work with a new bright RC intimidater

I imagine it would work well on dirt, but we only have snow right now so I can't test it. It is designed to go on a 12mm hex wheel hub. I'm not familiar with the new bright RC intimidater, but if it has 12mm wheel hubs you should be able to fit it.

1/10 scale is generally 12mm hex
1/8 scale is 17mm hex

For scaling purposes... how long is a proper stabilizer for tire

The "FrontStabilizer.stl" is 1.429 inches by 2.486 inches

When I import your files into MatterControl, they show up as SUPER small! What size should the Frame1b be? Once I figure out the scale, I can apply that to all the other parts.

I really want to make this for my Traxxas Slash!

EDIT- the Frame shows up as 4.956mm long- just FYI.

I designed it in inches, try scaling by 25.4

Just to make sure I have the right measurements, once I scale up- it makes the Frame1b 125.91 long by 83.68 tall. Is that about right?

This is awesome.

Sure, a wider track will certainly help. But you might also want to consider adding ski's to the sides of the track, so it helps prevent the track from digging in. Also, you might just want to put a ramp under the front of the under carriage. That might help too.
