Summary

Transform your Proto X into the iconic dark side flyer and protect your propellers at the same time!

New version! Uploaded 02/25/2015
The new version (v2) has a been redesigned to be better fitting, more solidly attached, and (most important) better looking!

Update! 03/06/2015
I have replaced V2 with a slightly better version, and uploaded the individual parts to better support more platforms.

Instructions

A quick note;
The canopy will require some extra hand fitting and filing and you will have to remove the stock plastic cover to get it to fit correctly.

With the canopy attached this TIE rig (v2) is at near maximum flying weight, so run times will be lower and handling can be tricky. Time permitting, I will be looking to see if I can reduce the weight for this piece to correct for this.
I will, of course, post that updated file if successful.

i hate it when someone capitalizes on some elses design. ive seen it happen way to often

I love star wars this is the best thing and I'm getting a Proto X Nano. this is the greatest thing ever.

I'm new here & wanted to print one of these prop guards. Your update on 03/06/2015 says "I have replaced V2 with a slightly better version, and uploaded the individual parts to better support more platforms." However I noticed those individual parts & the complete V2 have the same file dates. Which is the lightest? I saw the comment that V2 fits better than the original but appears to be heavier. Do you even recommend printing the original version just to get the lightest weight one?

Thanks in advance.

WOW! NO!
The eBay listing is not mine,
this blade guard is not one I have created, and I think the listing is unethical and damaging.
Like many who post things to this site, creating this file was an investment of my time and energy.
My only intention to create enjoyment and to inspire others in the maker community.
I'm sad to see it be used like this.

Well, for what it is worth, you can instruct them to take down the listing. As per the User agreement here on thingiverse, we all agree to honor the intellectual property rights of the creators. Whenever we post things here, we have a level of copyright protection that makerbot will protect; however, thingiverse requires us to spell out our permissions in the item description. For example: "This item may be reproduced for personal use but it may not be reproduced for resell."

Sorry to see this has happened to you! It looks like they have already made $388.70 with this listing alone. They also stole someone else' bumper design to list on eBay....

I want to thank you Mysabre73 for bringing this to my attention. I have contacted this seller to pull this eBay listing twice under CCL. The first time they argued that they were simply providing a 'service' printing my file. The second time they simply replied 'Sure'. The seller continues to offer prints of my file on eBay, and at last count has made nearly $500 from this venture. I now see another eBay lister selling the updated version I posted. It seems that cordial contact has failed and may force me to take legal action. The most damaging part will be to the Thingiverse community. I have been working on a third version and other TIE that fixes allot of the weight and carry issues and I have other variants of the TIE ready to post (Advanced, Interceptor, and Bomber). Given this misuse of my files I don't think I will be posting those files. I sincerely apologize to the honest members of this community, I hope you understand why.

I guess the (excellent) models you produce will only reach those who spend hours browsing thingiverse and have their own 3d-printer. Yes, you're right...what a shame.

PS - The copyright you chose allows for commercial use.

I am sorry to hear that. If it helps, I recently saw that they had pulled their listing.

I too have had my designs used like that and I understand how you feel; but it is a shame that we will miss out on your very clever mods! I, for one, enjoy your designs, in fact, I have a number of your Christmas ornaments that decorate my tree! It is my hope that you will not taint your feelings too heavily against this great system (though not without its flaws) that is Thingiverse.

Thank you, I wont stop posting, but posting objects that cross potential copy-write issues.... this situation gives me pause. I made it for others to enjoy, not exploit...

I love this design! I was wondering something though; is this your listing on eBay? I hope it is!

Epically awesome!

Awesome it is beyond, words there are not.

"Like" button is just not a strong enough description of how i feel about this design. Looking for the "Love" button.

Wow, this is freaking awesome!

I find that Its great at protecting against inverted landings, and ceiling strikes and the like. The one thing I still need to improve is the nose cowling, which is purely decorative. Its not centered and tends to fall off allot. It also adds run time robbing weight. I usually run without it.

Badass.

At first I thought this was more of a novelty prop guard, but then I realized it's extremely practical. Prop guard and landing legs in one.

Very nice.
