This is a modified Prusa Mendel X Carriage that will fit the standard Mendel X axis. It uses PLA bushings instead of the standard bearings.

The main difference is that it will clamp to the Mendel drive belt using the 2 clamps provided in the design.

A secondary difference is that it will hold the double-Wade seen in the background of the photo (details coming soon).


Print. Fit X belt clamps with M4 screws, washers and nuts. Glue the plastic bushings into place on carriage body. It's a good idea to glue the M4 nuts for holding the extruder into the cavities as they are hard to reach. Push onto X axis rails and leave while glue sets. Clamp X drive belt on. Clamp on extruder ditto.

Once on the rails, it is hard to remove forcibly without breaking the bushings.

looking for a vertical belt clamp that would work for my i2 rework - did you ever make a different version? how did the pla work on the rods?

Nope, didn't make a new version as we moved to much larger rods and CNC'd the bearings ourselves, but feel free to hack the OpenSCAD code.

PLA worked fine on the rods, but you need to fix the clamps in position with some hot glue or polycaprolactone (aka CAPA, PCL, Friendly Plastic, Polymorph etc.)

New version coming up that will take a Wade with the gear hanging over the belt anchors, and has 4 belt clamps so you can use M4x40 bolts without cutting them.

Should now have room for the Wade gear, but I chickened out on the extra clamps.

Have you had any issues with binding, having the belt secured so off center?
