Summary

Design in OpenSCAD to be printed all at once on a Replicator and snapped together.

Just print and put together - no need for glue!

Instructions

  1. Print
  2. Peel off platform and the thin first layer
  3. Insert one joint connector in either end of the middle piece
  4. Snap the two ends onto the middle
  5. Save the universe!

I just printed this on my Ultimaker 2 and it really rocks. Can you release the SCAD files? I'd like to modify a bit to include some electronics. (also by printing all at once I get a lot of strings with the runny pink pla I'm using, so I'd like to print the pieces individually.)
Excellent work though, it's really well done!

I have a student trying to print this on a CubeX printer and it seems to be trying to print this file from the top down. In other words it is just printing out streams of plastic about 8 inches above the platform.

Any clues as to what is going on?

Hey, can someone put up a gcode file? slic3r won't produce one for me. Sad face.

Just finished printing this... The pins are incredibly difficult to snap in place. Also why are there 3 connectors when only 2 are needed?

Hey MacGyver! The connectors printed fine on my 'bot, but then again they're tuned to really tight tollerances. You can adjust this in the OpenSCAD file. As for the 3 connectors - I had a connector fail during one print. This way even if one fails, you can still print a screwdriver. But, again, you can always adjust that in the OpenSCAD file.

No worries, I simply used superglue and ditched the pins. I found that using the pins created gaps in the screwdriver that I didn't like.

why does everyone make the 11th doctor's sonic screwdriver with 6 arms at the top instead of the real amount of 4? is it to make it more easily printable?

I know - it was just too easy to make it like that. I'm working on a 4 arm'ed one now.

Thank you sir! It uses the same joint system from my OpenSCAD Voltron. It takes a little force to put together and take apart, but that's actually a good thing. I had to hot-glue my daughter's screwdriver three times.
