A more printable version of the R2D2 thing by InnovationByLayers. While their model is commendable in its attention to detail, it was entirely useless as a printable model. I have taken the STL's into Blender and made considerable revisions both to make it manifold and printable without support. I tried my best to keep to the spirit of the design while fixing the overhangs and recesses that kept it from being something one could print on a 3D printer.

I'm still working on the revisions and I'll put them up as finish them and confirm they are fit to print. My revisions are scaled up to twice the size of the original 'cause I have an awesome large format printer.

Awesome print !!! Your photos don't do this justice.
It really is a 'self supporting' print ( I also printed out the original).

I stripped out the inner tube and infill and printed the body at 110% of yours ( so 220% in total ). Needed space for Uno and batteries and other. Will do "foot's next and then legs.

Thanks for your effort.

This is printed without support I see. Just wondering how would it print where the center foot goes. That's quite a long distance across to print without support. Thanks

Hi , sorry for the question , but , where is the head of the model?

Not just the head - the middle foot is also missing.

How do we attach the 'legs' to the body? It looks like the body is keyed but there is nowhere on the leg that fits the slot. Same goes for the feet. They look like they're keyed but nothing on the leg seems to fit.

would love some head!!!! model looks great just want a top

Hi, is there a head anywhere to download? Can't find. Thanks Klaus

i'm printing this at the momment but curious to what percentage was this scaled from the original file since they don't have the same dimensions? thx.

Okay, just popped the files open and took a look. The STL's should all be the right scale. Some of the .blend files need to be scaled. The scale factor is simply 2x.

Can't recall offhand, though I do remember that I sometimes forgot to scale things up from the original. They are scaled at some reasonable, round number I think.

Thank yooouuuh :) When i have time, to Print this

Can't wait for the updates!!!

Well, I just uploaded the foot pieces! Bit of a wait. Sorry about that. Believe me, I hear no end of it from my wife. "Where's R2D2's head!?"

where do I find the middle foot piece and head for your amazing R2D2
