Upgrade your prusa I3 with a dual extruder without loosing footprint, you need to change your Z Bottom and Top and print the dual extruder

Update 09/07/2015 - X carriage, now simple and dual extruder use same carriage, Two version uploaded - 3 Lm8uu or 1Lm8Luu + Lm8uu

A couple more questions? 1. You have pictures of what look like two different versions, one in blue and one in yellow. The yellow one looks like it has variable tension on the filament feed? I'm printing Flexible Filament using a Hictop I3, which doesn't have variable tension, and I'm having to just remove the spring to get it to feed properly. Can your extruder handle Flexible Filament (NinjaFlex). 2. You don't show any cooling fans, my current extruder has one on the filament feed, and one to cool the extruded model. Does your extruder support fans? 3. What are the 'carro_GT2*' parts?

Can these components be printed on a single head printer, the geometry of some of them looks like supports are needed?

As Angoosh say, the parts which need support, they have it already 3dmodel by me, so you can printted without support

there are no supports needed, and you can print supports even on single head printer, but they will be from the same material and sometimes very hard to get rid of.

I've printed this one, but turns out that my extruders aren't the same height, i'll try to remix your design to make it adjustable on each extruder (just the lower part). On some of the pictures there is another version where the idler is on the outside, would you mind sharing that one instead? My idlers are way too close for my clumsy hands to fit them easily :)

Send me mp with your email ;)

Save yourself some stress with trying to make the mounts adjustable - it's a lot of hassle.

To adjust the height you could easily file down one end of the threaded heatbreak tube with a file on the one that is longer. If the E3d hotends are"genuine" then height shouldn't generally be a problem as the copies are not machined to the same tolerances.

If there is a huge difference, Make sure that the nozzles are screwed right in to the heatblock, then assemble the break tube and then screw in the heatsink - that'll make sure everything is nipped up nice and close.

Hope this helps you a little Good luck :-)

I'm going to upload in a few days the 2017 version, the extruder can be tilted to compensate the distance between the nozzles

Do you have a remix with a BLtouch mount ?

For this dual extruder nope, but wait a desing it in 2 min

Its uploaded ;)

Magic - good work dude !

I'll print the parts over the next week or so and test it out - you've saved me a few hours work remixing ;-)

Great design ! It's for 1.75 or 3mm extruder ??

Hola! Gran aporte. Estoy imprimiendo las piezas. ¿Podrías poner instrucciones de montaje?

Mil gracias

The pieces are the same from a prusa I3, just Z pieces are a little big bigger, but same i3 assembly manual it should be ok

It's looking very nice!
Now I printed everything, but how should I put it together?
Can you please mail instructions to [email protected]?

Where did you buy your springs? The DE 6mm

Superb design !!!!!! Do you plan to update for flex filament ???? It should be great ;-)

Many Many thanks for your amazing work

Yep I will modify it ;)

Great news !!!! so I wait your new version to print it ;-)

Many thanks

Yep I will modify it ;)

the caro 1X1 stl file is invalid, can you change it please

Do you have de original file, de file not in stl?

Give me your email i can send you an step with the assembly

the file "dual_extruder_i3.stl", the stl is reversed compared to the picture

That's because the printer in the picture it's an older version, the new version reduce the distances between nozzle, so you doesn't loose footprint

hello what is the size of bearing on extruder please

great job

it's a 624 zz
ID - 4mm
ED- 13mm
H- 5mm

Can you provide a hardware list you used (stepper motors, extruders, screws, ...)?

Do you recommend printing this with ABS?

The last image, is the hardware list.

I printed the entire Kit in PLA, and i use e3DV6, no problems with temperatures.
But if you wanna print in ABS, go ahead

The stepper it's a nema17, it's just a normal PrusaI3, but with some changes in the printed parts

With "normal" i3 you mean a i3 prusa hephestos? I am asking because I got that model ;)
So if I print this with PLA, will the extruders be able to handle 220-250°C without the PLA from the extruders getting fluid?

yes use the same motors and electronics. I print Nylon with taht extruder. But as I say i have the E3DV6 hot end, the heatsink it's cold while printing. Print the extruder in ABS. The other pieces PLA it's fine

Okay thanks one more question though:
Whats the diamater you used for the clamps to hold your hot ends in place? I would like to use 2 of these hot ends as I am already using 1 of them atm:
Would this hot end be able to be held by the clamp too?

I dont' think you can't install those on my extruder. Too shorts, and BQ use an aluminum extruder, no plastic pieces, if hot end gets hot, you have no problem

I like the design and I'm really thinking about building it, have you built it.... and photos? Also wondering if you have a parts list?

I just upload an image with all the hardware, beraring and rods lenght ;)

What do you need??? All the hardware needed???
I already upload some photos, from V1, its the same system, but V2 have the hot ends closer

Ya, so I know what to get to build it when I go to the hardware store.

Yes a built a few of those. I will upload some images tomorrow ;)

Thank you coricoco :) I just got an I3 from Folger Tech, it is kinda small and only 1 extruder, but I figured it was the cheapest route to get started.... and I could make it better by making parts for it :)

Felicidades, gran aporte
