Find the new simplified v2 Name Keyring maker here http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1148986 now with sliders for spacing and height adjustment

Customizable Text Keyring, make one for your significant other! show them that the expense is justified after all!!

Uses the recently added openSCAD text() function, which allows the use of almost any regular font.

Change Log:

Version 1.4: 22/11/2015

  • Added a few more fonts that work OK
  • Added Loop Y position adjustment (suggested by shadow651, thanks)
  • Tidied the settings menus
  • Refined the range slider amounts

How I Designed This

Uses the recently added openSCAD text() function, which allows the use of almost any regular font.

Instructions

  1. Choose a Font

  2. Enter the text you want, it works best with <10 letters

  3. Adjust the spacing of the characters so they touch each other, you must enter an array containing the same amount of number as you have letters (e.g. [12.5,12.5,12,10.5,10] for 5 letter name)

  4. Adjust the height of each letter, between 5 and 10mm works best, you must enter an array containing the same amount of number as you have letters (e.g. [10,7.5,8.8,7.5,10] for 5 letter name)

  5. Tweak the twist and center as desired.

  6. Adjust the key loop position so it is touching the first letter

  7. Check it over with the Rotation slider

Print It!
I printed mine in PLA with a 0.2mm layer height.

It appears that Thingiverse have changed something, I will investigate resume service ASAP :)

Customizer not working! Bummer, My son wants to make his aunt a keychain, but the program not working any more. He has made one for just about every family member.

Hi 3DFablabhawaii,

This is fixed now

:)

I had problems creating a keyring that started with a hashtag. Once I got rid of #, it worked.

Hi sheil_1

I had added facility to use a different character for the loop, much better if you need to start with a hashtag

:)

I have issues with this if I start a name with the letter J, or just about anything that doesn't have something on the left side of the 1st character

Other than that it's great!

Hi sheil_1

I had added facility to use a different character for the loop

:)

Thanks, that helps a bunch!

might also be nice to have some control over the Y position and rotation of the loop

Nice, but I've noticed that the "Anton" font clips a lot.

Yes, your right, Anton is not the best of fonts, Chewy is my personal fave comes out very smooth :)

Customiser not working 8-(
