You can use slic3r specifying:

  • 3 layers for the bottom
  • 0 for the top
    Thus the vase is opened.
Regarding the setting slic3r, must be set manually depending on the size of your printer, or find a prussa config file.

    best regards

Anybody know if you can use Cura to slice this? As far as I know, there is only a single thickness setting for the bottom and top so you can't leave the top open. I tried slcr3, but it doesn't have a compatible printer selection for a RepRap Prusa I3 type printer like mine. The design of the vase is very cool, but need help to figure out how to get it to print correctly.

Printing this with my new copy of Simplify3d. The sides are like glass! Awesome design!

thank you for your post. do you have a pictures?

Hey Philippe!

I just posted a picture now. Red and black looks good together too.

Thank you for such an awesome design, these will make great gifts!

Well, the latest version - May 8, fixes the buggery that starts about halfway up, but the edge is still feathered and very ragged when examined with netfabb. It also makes slicers go crazy, with disconnected fragments out past the sharp edge.

The model is a mess, with a trail of wiggles 1/4" from the tail, and lots of fat lines that start about halfway up. I tried slic3r 0.9.9, KISSlicer 1.1.0 and Cura, and they all showed exactly the same issues.
Nice design, really bad .stl file.

The STL model is generated with Solidedge ST4.
I do not use slic3r 0.9.9 (many bug) but slic3r 0.9.7. + Pronterface
I'm really sorry for this mess.
I'll try to do better ....

it's true...yinyangvase is better

Yin down, yang on the way. FYI, slicer 0.9.9 made a bit of a mess with the toolpaths, and KISS didn't really like the mesh either, leaving artifacts outside the shell..

I netfabb'd it, but didn't seem to make a really big difference on the artifacts, so I resorted to manually cleaning up the gcode for the second vase..

Care to share your cleaned-up version ?
