This is a simple modification to the ABP,
to make it removable.

This way we can quickly switch to alternative
build-platforms better suited to the current
tool-head or object to print.
(e.g. HBP for tall objects or a vice for
milling and "steptrusion" or a clamp for drawing.)

The following video explains how we insert these:

Blog post:

You may use this part to design new built platforms.
(I'm thinking about designing a vice-like platform for PCB milling.)

Print 2 of these.
Loosen the bolts on the acrylic sides of the platform.
Insert these parts in the front and back.
(It is intentionally 2mm wider then the original one, so it slides off easily later.)
Drill holes for the one bolt per side.
Remove the original bolts and insert them into their new location.
Cut the acrylic around the original bolt hole.

To remove the ABP, just
remove the 2 bolts per side on the horizontal part
and pull the ABP up.

Just FYI: A "vise" is for holding things, a "vice" is defined as, "Immoral or wicked behavior."

Love your stuff. Thank you!

vise (AE) / vice (BE) [tech.]

Worked well, had to bore out the nut holes a bit and widen screw tunnels but that was no sweat. Make sure you focus when dremel'n the acrylic as there is little room for error.

Scooter just published a quick-release for the Heated Build Platform:

I forgot to suggest. Rather than cutting the acrylic - remove the screws and the wood tabs. Yes, you would have to initially dismantle more but, would have a cleaner installation.

I'd like to keep the wood as it is. The holes give a stiffer connection to alternative build platforms with less shaking.

Your picture doesn't appear to be a full install? The acrylic is not cut nor machine screws installed.

Just see the video for that.

Thank you. I saw your video. You speak concisely and clearly. Some of your body obscures important angles of the installation. The picture is still inaccurate?

Secondary observation - With your good idea of additional parts it looks like two more parts could be placed. One on each side beneath the horizontal section attached to the ABP and then with two screws, one screw on each side, the entire assembly could be removed. Clearances close, parts small -
but doable? The stresses on the ABP/HBP are very low. :-D

I'm not exactly sure I understand. Could you provide a (technical) drawing?

Do you need anything to create an improve version and publish it as a derivative work?

I updated the video with another one.

Sound should be much better now.

I've been thinking about something like this, just hadn't quite gotten around to making it. Good job! I'll add it to my upgrade lists this week.

Did you install?

I added a technical drawing of the dimensions used and a 3d pdf.

(I guess the drawing could become handy in designing more platforms for other toolheads.)
