Thing to mount your Structur3D Discov3ry paste extruder tip to a Printrbot Metal Simple or Printrbot Metal Plus printer. This thing is designed to be super adjustable. By allowing adjustment, you can move your paste extruder mount up and down respectively when not in use and while in use so your Printrbot can print plastic filament as well as pastes from the Discov3ry without removing your paste mount.
The thing is comprised of three 3D printed parts.
I printed on my Printrbot Plus Metal, using Simplify3D v2.2, and used a .2mm layer height, 4 solid layers for the top/bottom and side shells, 25% infill, 210 degrees Celsius using Printrbot PLA filament (at high-end for temp for PLA to get a good bond between layers), and support and a raft enabled for printing the mount body as I printed on its side for vertical layer "grain". The clip and shim were printed flat on print bed without support or a raft.
- For use on a Printrbot Metal Plus, you only need to print the 1) mount body and 2) clip
- For use on a Printrbot Metal Simple, you need to print the 1) mount body, 2) clip and 3) shim
The clip is screwed into mount body using 6-32 x 1/2" machine screws available from any hardware store. The Structur3D Discov3ry extruder paste tip or extruder paste tube is clamped between printed clip and printed mount body.
This thing is connected to Printrbot Metal Simple and Printrbot Metal Plus by using longer M3 screws and washers and existing Printrbot aluminum extruder M3 screw holes. These M3 screws and washers can be purchased online or from any small hardware store in the US. The long M3 screws go through the long open slots on the mount body and when loosened, allow the mount be lowered and raised.
The shim is only used for the Printrbot Simple Metal and is mounted between the Printrbot aluminum extruder and the mount body. The oversized shim holes have the M3 screws pass through them.
I have a blog post that includes additional details regarding this thing and its use with the Structur3D Discov3ry paste extruder.
