Summary

If you want to learn how to play the Great Highland Bagpipes or you want to print yourself a new Practice Chanter, this is your THING!

This Practice Chanter has a surprisingly great sound!

I will try to build a printable reed so you don't have to buy one :)

Here is the Chanter in action:

Instructions

Supports: on
Infill: 30-40%

You will need two 18x2mm O-Rings...
The parts are glued together except the big one.

I printed it in black PLA...

ATTENTION: This THING is difficult to print and you need a very good filament cooling system, because there are huge over-hangings!!!

Love the design! I was in the process of making one from scratch and then found yours. I have a really tall printer and I would like to print off both of your chanters with the lower half without the joints - can you post the design or stl files?

I have one tips for you when you print such tiny parts, you make a simple rod like 5 mm diameter ad you put it far away from the initials skinny parts. The time of travel and making the little rod is enough for cooling the part ;)

This is awesome! I'm interested in machining one. Any chance you have the original CAD files?

Very cool. Though I think a printable reed might be unfeasible with current printers and materials but I do look forward to your results.
About the overhangs, do you think it is necessary for it to look like a real practice chanter? You could slope the outside a little differently and make it an easier print.
Also have you looked at Lindsay's work over at lindstruments.com ?

Thank you! Yeah it will be difficult to print a reed, it will need some postprocessing. I thought it would be nice to have a Practice Chanter, which looks and feels like a real one. Probably I will make a simple one and a long one, which has exactly the look of a real Chanter. Haha yeah, after I posted this THING here I checked if anyone else has made something like that. So I came to Lindsay's page. There are some nice Instruments!
